Marc is a member of our Energy & the Environment, Advocacy & Dispute Resolution, Construction, Labour & Employment and Municipal Law practice groups.

Representative Experience

Marc's experience as a professional engineer for one of the country's largest environmental consulting firms forms the focus of his legal practice. He represents clients in all things environmental, particularly contaminated sites, as well as builders’ liens and construction disputes, professional negligence claims and employment and occupational health and safety matters. He also has a significant municipal law practice, advising municipalities on governance and conflict of interest, drafting and enforcement of by-laws and contract and tender matters. Marc has particular experience in the area of joint municipal services, including solid waste management, and frequently acts for municipalities in land development and planning matters including appeals before the Utility and Review Board.

Publications

Marc is a co-author of the leading text on climate change law in Canada, The Law of Climate Change in Canada (Canada Law Book, 2010). He also writes the “Law East” column for the Environment Policy & Law newsletter.

On a Personal Note

Marc has been involved in various societies. He is a past chair of the Environmental, Energy & Resources Law Section of the Nova Scotia Branch of the CBA, past chair of The Clean Nova Scotia Foundation and served for four years as a director of the Environmental Services Association of Nova Scotia. He is also a member of the part-time faculty at the Schulich School of Law where he teaches Business & Environmental Law. In his spare time he enjoys hiking, curling and reading.
